1. Use good, even light and avoid the shadow of your phone falling on the page.
2. Hold the phone straight above the page, with the whole page in the frame.
3. Flatten the page near the spine as much as you can; curved lines are harder to read.

Printed text works best. Handwriting and very decorative fonts may not be recognised.

After scanning, tap a word, or drag across a line to select it. Then tap Meaning for a definition, Explain for an explanation of the passage, or Google to search it as it is. Results open in a browser sheet; close it to land back on your page. Everything you look up is kept under the book in Looked up.

Yes. Open the book from My Books and tap + Add next to Bookmarked pages or Quotes. Type the page number, the line and a note.

Open the book, tap the edit button at the top, then tap the cover. You can take a photo of your copy, pick one from your photos, or search for the cover online.

WhatsApp needs to be installed. Choose Story for a card sized for your Status, or Post for a square card for chats.

For your WhatsApp Status, tap WhatsApp and choose My Status. If anything still fails, tap Save to Photos and share the card from your photos to any app, including Instagram.

Free includes 3 page scans a day, charts for 3 books, 10 bookmarked pages and 10 saved quotes in total. Pro removes all of those limits and adds:

• Read aloud: listen to your quotes in a natural voice.
• Clean share cards, without the "Shared with Paperlight" mark.

Pro is $1.99 a month or $11.99 a year (prices vary by country).

The subscription is billed by Apple, not by me.

1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
2. Tap your name, then Subscriptions
3. Choose Paperlight and cancel there

Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've already paid for. Nothing you've saved is deleted; you just can't add more beyond the free limits.

Open the Pro screen in the app (tap Go Pro on the home screen) and tap Restore Purchases. That asks Apple for your purchases and turns Pro back on. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with. Restoring also works on a new iPhone or your iPad. If it still doesn't come back, email me.

All purchases go through Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple rather than by me. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Not yet. Everything stays on the device you created it on, which is also why no one else can see it. Your library is included in your device's iCloud or computer backup, so restoring a backup to a new iPhone brings it with you.

Scroll to the bottom of the home screen and tap Show the intro again. The intro plays again, and so do the tips on each screen.
